Collecting video games can get increasingly expensive. In addition to buying the games and accessories themselves, collectors need room in their respective budgets for the consoles they need to play them. If you’re a gaming fan, you now have the opportunity to buy every major game console ever made in one go—all you need to do is pay $1 million upfront.
As Kotaku reports, French eBay user Carrieur has listed his extensive console collection for €984,000 (or about $1 million) on the online auction site. This includes classics that you may already have in your closet at home, such as the original Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo Entertainment System. But the real gems of the bundle are the special-edition models. Carriere is selling hundreds of rare console variations, some of which were only originally available through contests. of course you don’t need To play Pokemon on the Gameboy that looks like Pikachu’s face, but it’s nice to have the option.
The haul includes about 2200 items, and collecting them was a long journey. According to Kotaku, Kariour writes that he began assembling consoles in the early 1990s and sold them at the end of the decade. He began building the collection in the 2000s before taking a break in 2011 due to a lack of time to track down rare pieces. On a trip to Tokyo in 2018, Cariour was able to buy back most of the items they previously sold, and is now putting them up for sale again.
Even if you have $1 million to spend on this treasure trove of consoles, finding a place to store them all can be a challenge. Kariour suggests that the collection is suitable for a museum. If you dream of opening a museum of gaming one day — or are keen to add an expansion to your home — you can buy consoles here as long as they’re still available.
