Being a cult leader means dealing with people, and some of them will not like your point of view. When Dissenters show up in Cult of Lambs, they can really throw a wrench in your system. Here’s how to recognize them and what to do about it.

What is a Dissenter?

Each new follower in the Cult of the Lamb has a chance to become a Dissenter, characterized by red eyes with two pupils (as seen in the screenshot above). Their presence will cause your cult’s faith to drop from time to time, and they tend to drop and carry resources with them along the way. Therefore, it is important to deal with them quickly.

There are two main ways to deal with a dissenter, and we’ll go through them in order of intensity. The first step is simply to talk to them. You’ll get the option to retrain the Dissenter, and they’ll be completely converted in your favor when you bring down their red meter. Unfortunately, this takes a few rounds, and you can only retrain a dissenter once per day. To balance this out, you’ll need to build a prison unlocked in Tier 2 of the Divine Inspiration skill tree. As seen in the image at the top of this article, a prisoner has a follower, so turning off a Dissenter means they won’t be able to talk to others and bring down the trust meter. This means you can safely re-educate them every day without fear of letting them go or causing more problems.
The second option is a faster, but extreme solution. There are a variety of rituals that involve sacrificing a member of your cult, and dissidents qualify. The flesh sacrifice, the ascendant follower, and the ritualistic battle pit all involve the death of a follower, but we do not recommend the last one as the descendant may win the battle. Note that there are tradeoffs with each of these, and your specific creed may have further reactions depending on the principles you choose. In any case, this is a quick way to rid yourself of a dissenter if you don’t want to convert them.
