Combat plays a big part as you progress through Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Around every corner, another enemy or group of enemies is waiting to take on the protagonist of the story. During these battles, you have a whole plethora of attacks and tactics to choose from. Play your cards right and you can get an overkill bonus for wiping the floor with an enemy. This will yield some nice bonuses. But what bonus can you expect?
How to Overkill in Xenoblade Chronicles
While it’s certainly possible to get overkill in a crash, it helps to know exactly what you’re doing, so you’re not blindly attempting it. Overkill can only happen during a chain attack. You will be introduced to Chain Attack during the second chapter of the game. These attacks allow your team to work together to inflict large amounts of damage to the enemy.

You can activate Chain Attack by pressing the + button during combat when the Chain Attack gauge is full. While a Chain Attack is active, you will initiate an overkill when you do more damage to the enemy than his remaining health. The word overkill will appear on the screen and the chain attack will continue.

Bonus for performing overkill
When you start Overkill, you’ll notice that the symbol in the lower right corner of the screen is different. Typically, you will see a percentage number for your loss multiplier. When an overkill occurs, you’ll also see a percentage multiplier for your expense gain. This multiplier can go up to 1,000%.

The main bonuses you can expect from Overkill are EXP and CP. Performing overkill is the best way to collect both types of points to rank up your characters’ levels and classes. As an added bonus, you get extra currency for doing overkill, though that hardly matters compared to experience.
