Most recently, Nintendo released Splatoon 3 as a farewell to the original, five years after the release of Splatoon 2. Splatoon 2 was a huge hit among the players because of the iconic salmon run mission. The new game has improvements like new bosses, maps and game modes that have been introduced to improve the gameplay. In Splatoon 3, the biggest upgrade is the ability to throw Golden Eggs which was not possible in the previous game in the series.
That’s why we’ve created a complete guide on Golden Eggs in Splatoon 3 and how to use them.
What are golden eggs in Splatoon 3?
When you’re playing Splatoon 3, after a boss fight you’ll see lots of orange collectibles that look like eggs. The golden egg is a more advanced form of these collectible eggs, with a visible salmonid embryonic skeleton inside.
In Splatoon 3, you’ll encounter several salmonid bosses while doing missions like Salmon Run. These salmonids bosses will drop golden eggs when you crack them. The word splat means when the health bar of the Salmonids boss drops to zero.
As stated before, there are several salmonid bosses in Splatoon 3. Each Salmonids boss will drop a different number of golden eggs when it is splattered. Normally, owners of ordinary salmonids will lay 3 golden eggs.
In Splatoon 3, some salmonids will drop a golden egg higher than or at least 3 bosses. The details of the owners are given below:
- The boss of Goldie Salmonids will drop a Golden Egg during the fight after 1 hit. Then drop 3 golden eggs when they are scattered at the end of the fight.
- The boss of Goldie Salmonids will also drop one, five or ten golden eggs when there is fog on the horizon.
- The boss of Mothership Salmonids will only leave 1 at a time when your shoot and chinook explodes. This owner cannot be separated.
- The bosses of Griller Salmonids will drop 5 golden eggs when you crack them.
How to Use and Throw Golden Eggs
The objective of missions like salmon run is to collect golden eggs in the egg basket. In Splatoon 3, different missions will have a different quota of putting Golden Eggs in the egg basket. If we talk about the salmon run, there are three waves in total with the maximum egg quota of 21, 23 and 25.
In each wave of missions, first of all, you have to take apart the boss. Then run into it and select the golden egg. After collecting the eggs, you need to put the eggs in the egg basket. You can either go in front of him and place the eggs in the egg basket.
Another way is to throw the golden egg by aiming it at the basket first. Once you have the correct target, you can release it by pressing the “A” button in the console. Throwing the Golden Egg will require ink in the inventory as cannon fuel.
One of the biggest advantages of egg throwing is the time saving time when working with other team members. If you are not within range of the egg basket you will not have to change your position. Simply throw it at any other team member who is close to the egg basket.
As soon as you meet the egg quota required for the mission, you will wave and eventually complete the entire mission. The other thing you need to watch out for is the snatchers. They’ll snatch your golden eggs if you don’t pick them up within a certain amount of time. However you can get the golden eggs of the snatcher by splashing them.
