Most people have probably heard of Mythic Quest and Ted Lasso by now and would have assumed that they are the only two good shows on stage. Severance was a surprise hit in early 2022, and it quickly gained popularity in the mainstream media. In fact, it’s starting to reach higher levels of Apple TV+ exclusive shows, along with other big hitters like For All Mankind.
Imagine splitting your consciousness into two parts. One part of you gets activated at work, and once you’re off the clock, the other part of you turns on you. Both have no memory of what the other did at work or in your personal life. In theory, this sounds perfect. Work-life balance never becomes an issue, and you never have to deal with or think about the daily stresses that come with work, but what about the part of you that is literally stuck at work forever. Is?
Severance continues the trend of producing really high concept and high quality sci-fi shows on the Apple TV+ platform, and it’s a must-see if you’re a subscriber.

If you’re looking for something heavy and downright annoying at times, look no further than Black Bird. Starring Taron Egerton of Kingsman fame, James Keene is a drug dealer who is swiftly caught and sent to prison. His sentence is harsh, but he can regain his freedom if he agrees to cooperate with the authorities by extracting a confession from a serial killer to a maximum security prison.
The serial killer in question, Larry, has been indicted for the murders of two women, although he is suspected of killing a total of 14 women, including underage girls. This prison drama is as disturbing as it is, as it delves deep into James’s own troubled childhood, and forces him to confront his past as he attempts to get closer to Larry. so that he can persuade her a confession.

I’ll be the first to admit that WeCrashed won’t be for everyone, especially if you’ve had enough of Jared Leto for the year. A show about arrogant and incredibly annoying rich people isn’t exactly the best elevator pitch, but if you get even the tiniest bit of investment in the story of WeWork and married couple Adam and Rebekah Newman’s rise and fall, it’s worth it. A very attractive watch.
Say what you will about Leto, but there’s no denying that his performance as Adam is simply magnetic, and Anne Hathaway’s own beautiful portrayal of Rebekah certainly helps complement it. The way they sell the concept of WeWork is really compelling and engaging, and even though you already know how the small shared work space story eventually shakes out, it’s still fun to watch the process go by.
Essex Serpents

Based on the novel by Sarah Perry, The Essex Serpent tells the story of Cora Seaborn, who travels to Essex to investigate myths and rumors about a mythical serpent in the area. She eventually befriends a local pastor played by none other than Tom Hiddleston, and their friendship leads to various interesting conversations about myth, science, and healthy acts of skepticism.
When a surprising thing happens to the Serpent, the Essex locals eventually turn on Cora, and everything goes downhill from there.
Played by Claire Danes, Cora herself is a fascinating character to follow especially as we learn more about her motivations behind moving to Essex and investigating Serpent. It’s also a fairly short mini-series, which makes it a very easy weekend binge.

Anything With Maya Rudolph is sure to be a fun time, and Booty is a great comedy series to follow on Apple TV+ if you’re not in the mood for heavy drama about a serial killer or something to split your consciousness in half. In no mood for existential crisis.
Protagonist Molly Novak is left with a huge sum of money after divorcing her husband of 20 years, and doesn’t know what to do with herself. She eventually decides to reconnect with her charity foundation to find out who she is as a single woman, and gets involved in all kinds of shenanigans along the way.
Booty also features a fairly impressive cast, including Ron Funches and Nat Faxon, as well as Severance’s Adam Scott as a recurring character.
