2022 has been a great year for the horror genre. This year has brought us fears new and old, most recently we have seen Ethan Hawke give a chilling performance as serial killer/kidnapper ‘The Grabber’ in The Black Phone. Ti West made us realize how scary old people can be with his grindhouse horror X and a slasher icon back in a major way with the relaunch of Matt Bittelli and Tyler Gillette’s Scream.

Jordan Peele is back once again, and this time he’s dabbling in sci-fi horror. Peele is best known as the director of the breakout film Get Out, which first debuted in 2017, and is considered by the American Writers Guild to be the greatest screenplay of the 21st century. High praise, indeed. Peele’s sophomore effort was just as successful as us and has since led to a successful reboot of The Twilight Zone. The man is one of the best writers/directors of the genre.
Going by the early reviews, it looks like Peele has completely knocked it out of the park once again. Nope’s release is just around the corner and currently sits at an impressive 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. Knope reunited Peele with Daniel Kaluuya for the first time since Get Out. Kalua plays a farm owner who, along with his sister and their isolated town residents, takes on video evidence of a UFO after objects mysteriously fall from the sky.

They/Them is the latest film to come from Blumhouse who has established itself as one of the foremost horror production companies in the business. Blumhouse is behind films such as Happy Death Day, The Invisible Man and Freaky. If you know the vibe and tone of those movies then you know what you are in for. A bloody good time. Blumhouse movies are a lot intimidating, but they also know how to have fun.
They/Them Kevin Bacon stars as the camp counselor of a gay conversion camp. A group of LGBTQ teens must endure the unconventional and disturbing ways of councilors when they are hunted by a masked killer. He/She is coming to the streaming service Peacock on August 5th, you can watch the trailer here.

It kind of came out of nowhere! Orphan: First Kill is a prequel to the original Orphan film that was released all the way back in 2009. Orphan focused on the psychic Esther, who used a hormonal illness as a child and infiltrated families and reigned terror, violence. and manipulate them. The Orphan Truly is best known for its surprising twist and lead actress Isabel Furman’s performance as Esther.
Obviously, the first film was well received by many as Orphan: First Kill is back again. Esther is taken in by an American family after escaping a psychiatric facility, when they mistakenly identify her as their missing daughter. It quickly becomes clear that not everything is as it seems. Is it weird that the now 25-year-old 5’3″ Furman is back to portray the 9-year-old?

Robert Eggers’ 2016 period horror The Witch put the A24 on the map and everything the entertainment company has touched since then has turned gold. In 2022, A24 is one of the most well-known brands in film and television.
A24’s most recent title, Bodies Bodies Bodies, is a dark comedy horror directed by Halina Reason. The film centers on a group of young friends holding a house party during a storm. The friendship is put to the test throughout the night as the group is hunted down in a murder-in-the-dark slasher mystery of their own. Initial reviews are very positive so this is definitely one to keep on your radar! Body Bodies will release in theaters on August 5, you can watch the trailer here.

It’s a little different and coming to the horror streaming service Shudder. This Is GWAR is a documentary that focuses on the shock-rock band GWAR.
GWAR is an American-heavy metal band that has been around since the ’80s and have gained a reputation for their weird horror-themed costumes and the extreme action they take at their gigs. The band has established deep lore and mythology, portraying themselves as alien barbarians from space. Guar has been a source of controversy over the years for its shows involving excessive violence and spectators being sprayed with fake blood, semen and urine.
It is GWAR that goes behind the scenes of these elaborate stage shows to see how they are brought to life and takes a deep dive into the history of the band. Shudder is the go-to destination for all horror fans and has established a reputation for its original content and in-depth documentaries. This GWAR is coming to Shudder later this month and you can watch the trailer here.

Fantastic stars Ryan Kwanten as a young man in a bad spot after a breakup. Kwanten’s character finds himself trapped in a rest-stop bathroom with a mysterious stranger, played by Oscar-winner JK Simmons, who reveals that he has a part to play in horrific conspiracies. Details on it are scarce, but the impressive cast make it worth keeping an eye on. A very brief teaser can be seen here.

Halloween ends… this time for real! After more than 40 years and 13 movies, Michael Myers and Laurie Strode will face each other for one last time. Is this really the nail in Michael’s coffin? We’ll have to wait and see, but this is definitely Jamie-Lee Curtis’s last turn as Laurie. The relaunched trilogy started off strong in 2018, but last year’s Halloween Kills proved highly divisive among fans of the franchise. Hopefully, this final chapter will lead to the conclusion that the franchise deserves. Halloween Kills is coming to theaters on October 18 and you can watch the trailer here.

Anya-Taylor Joy has easily reinvented herself as a horror icon with her breakout role in The Witch and last year’s Last Night in Soho from Edgar Wright.
The menu looks quite unique and seems to have been shot beautifully based on the initial teaser. The film will focus on a young couple who travel to a remote island to attend a luxury restaurant managed by a celebrity chef, played by Ralph Fiennes. The menu features cinematography by Peter Deming, best known for his work on Mulholland Drive and Twin Peaks, and features a chilling performance as the mysterious Slovic from Fiennes. The fear is definitely within, but you’d be forgiven if your highlights from the trailer are so bloody. divine He looks at the food. Menu is coming to theaters on November 18.

2022 has already revived some horror icons and the next villain on the list is Cenobite Pinhead, this time played by trans actress Jamie Clayton. The reboot of Hellraiser will feature a script written by David S. Goyer, best known for his work on The Dark Knight trilogy. This new interpretation aims to serve as a more faithful adaptation of The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker which featured Pinhead’s first appearance. There’s no fixed release date for Hellraiser, but it’s currently in post-production and on track to hit the streaming service Hulu later this year.

Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are back for the fifth Evil Dead movie, but this time Ash is taking a back seat. The focus will be on two sisters who discover the Necronomicon and must fight for their survival after taking out their inner demons. With both Raimi and Campbell involved in this latest installment, there’s a good chance it could be very special. Evil Dead Rises is coming to HBO Max later this year.
There’s no shortage of quality horror content for fans to consume throughout the year and next year looks even more promising with Arie Aster’s highly anticipated Disappointment Blvd, the Scream line-up, The Exorcist and a remake of Salem’s LOT. is visible.
