The anime film is based on Fuse’s fantasy light novel with a depiction of Mitz Wah which began serialization on Shosetsuka ni Naro from 2013 to 2016. Micro Magazine Publishing acquired the light novel and published the first volume in May 2014. The 19th volume shipped last November, with the 20th volume released on 30 September.
Taiki Kawakami published a manga adaptation on Kodansha’s Shnen Serious from March 2015. Kodansha shipped the 20th and 21st volumes on March 9 and July 7, respectively. Five spin-off manga have been created since July 2016.
Light novels, manga and other byproducts have 30 million cumulative copies in circulation.
