Card game fans will be aware of the strange paradox that the genre imposes on them. You’re always tempted to look for a new card game to play, and yet you really don’t have enough time to play the card game you love. Then comes the danger of sitting outside a box release for one reason or another and suddenly it comes to meta decks.
For many players, digital equivalents provide an easier way to enjoy the hobby. Digital cards and online matchmaking can really take a lot of work out of playing games and free up a lot of bedroom space all over the world. The growing interest in digital card games has led to an increase in titles looking to carve their own niche in the market.
Temperia: Soul of Majestic Moonwolf Entertainment and A2 Softworks is a game that tries to offer players something different. The main appeal of Temperia is that it is an open-handed game. Players will build decks that draw random hands at the beginning of each round. The hands will be visible to both players.

Cards have a score on all four sides, and as long as they are placed on a 3×3 grid, as long as those values are greater than the enemy cards, they can take cards. Cards can have a variety of effects, elemental interactions, or even be influenced by the location where they are played. Players also receive items that can be played in their hand, on the table, or in the hands of their enemy.
This is a very simplification of the systems that make up Temperia and winning or losing depends mostly on how well developed your understanding of the game system is and how much you can play based on the cards you and your opponent get. Can prepare strategy quickly.
Since you can always see your opponent’s cards, it’s important to think a few steps ahead. Tempera: Souls of Majestic is often about trying to remove some cards from your enemy’s deck, allowing your opponent to play them in a position that you can take advantage of later in the game. It is common to pass control of the cards back and forth, and whoever controls the most cards at the end of the round wins. This leads to very tense moments while you wait to see if your opponent will react with what you thought or if they saw something on the card that you missed.
Tempera: Soul of the Majestic is currently available in Early Access on Steam. While the game is certainly interesting and offers a lot to catch on for fans of the card game, it has plenty of room for detail and polish to really try and draw in the crowd.
