Almost two years after the release of the new generation consoles, namely the PS5 and the Xbox Series, the mid-cycle, often synonymous with a new machine iteration, is approaching.
Whether with video game consoles or smartphones in particular, we are used to seeing new machines come to enhance a product range bringing a second wind to the latter. This could similarly be the case with a very likely PS5 Pro, and this, despite Sony’s recent increase in selling prices for the console…
PS5 Pro: What to expect?
In addition to the appearance of various patents concerning a new console prototype filed by Sony Interactive Entertainment obviously reminiscent of the arrival of a new machine in the PlayStation rangeand the publication of a video by RedGamingTech gathering some unofficial information, here are the things we would like to see happen on this future PS5 Pro : this is indeed what we will call it while waiting for a potential announcement with great fanfare.
First, let’s talk aboutone of the biggest black spots of the classic PS5: storage space. Indeed, even if the performance of the SSD is quite commendable: the fact that it is only 825 GB, and even less than 700 GB after installing the OS, has clearly caused problems for many players, causing them to frequently uninstall games to free up disk space. Although everyone can add an additional SSD by opening the small hatch of the console, it would necessarily be desirable for the PS5 Pro to accommodate a hard disk at least as powerful, but with a storage space reaching at least one terabyte.
Despite the possibility of adding an SSD, a larger base storage space would be better on PS5 Pro.
Increased performance
In addition to the memory of the bike, we are similarly entitled to expect a significant gain in performance. Even if the information shared by RedGamingTech mentions a console twice as powerful as its little sister, we especially hope to finally be able to enjoy the basic 4K / 60fps without having to choose between the Loyalty, Performance and Performance RT modes well known to PS5 owners. This could also be an opportunity to increase the level of detail and display density of on-screen elements such as vegetation, particle effects, and objects with their own physics.
In a perfect world, all the software already on the market would also benefit from this pretty badge anda free patch to boost the game’s performance by relying on the resources of the PS5 Pro.
A free patch to boost the performance of PS5 Pro would be a very good idea!
A more controlled Ray-Tracing
Regarding Ray-Tracing, again the information revealed by RedGamingTech evokes technology 2.5 times more powerful than on PS5 Vanilla and indeed, it would be wise to see the PS5 Pro offer more elaborate Ray-Tracing without the need to lose graphic detail or resolution.
Still too neglected by many developers, because very resource-intensive, this technology could thus take advantage of this new machine to express themselves clearly and emphasize even more various lighting effects in the search for realism.

Ray-Tracing has clearly not reached its full potential.
The ideal platform for PSVR2
Already announced by Sony: the PSVR2 will be released in the coming months! And an interesting and important thing to clarify: it will only be compatible with the PS5, and not with the PS4… So it’s a safe bet that the PS5 Pro will obviously be focused on supporting the next PlayStation virtual reality headset. in to boost its performance.
As we know, this PSVR2 will host two OLED panels with a definition of 2000×2040 each with support for HDR and a refresh rate oscillating between 90 and 120 Hz. Similarly, advanced eye tracking, four cameras and vibration motors will equip the helmet: a concentrate of technology that will communicate with the console via a single cable allowing the helmet to rely on the resources of the machine. Thereby, it is not unimaginable to think that the PS5 Pro will offer better performance to the PSVR2 than its little sister.
Still in terms of technologies, PlayStation will have to continue the efforts made in terms of audio, in particular by offering, why not, aan even better version of the Audio Tempest : an already very convincing functionality and allowing a better spatialization of the sound in space.

PSVR2 will be available in 2023.
A design change?
As for the visual aspect of the machine, Sony could market a bike less bulky than the PS5, whose size and weight have been subject to much reluctance among players. Besides these two aspects, the design could undergo a slight modification as was the case between the PS4 and the PS4 Pro.
On the other hand, it could be interesting to benefit froma new liquid cooling system, as predicted by a patent that appeared a few months ago. Likewise, the addition of a second USB port on the front would allow you to charge two controllers simultaneously in this way. Speaking of controller, it would be nice if the classic DualSense, as well as its Edge version, gained in autonomy : the latter being sometimes quite limited depending on the use you make of it.

The PS5 are very (too) imposing!
At what price ?
In view of recent events, the question of price certainly remains the most important. Will players be willing to spend more than €550 to get a new machine? We have seen what happened with the PS3… We will therefore have to remain attentive to future communications from Sony and PlayStation, and we will talk about all this as soon as we have been able to take advantage of official information.
