The PS4 has reached its end of life but continues to sell in the millions. Now it’s the fourth most sold console of all time.
The semiconductor crisis could be coming to an end, good news for the PS5. But the PS4 is still enjoying huge excitement as the console has reached the end of its production cycle. Since its release, millions of copies have been shipped! Enough to prove that despite the current-gen, many players continue to take advantage of the great features of the machine.
117.2 million PS4 sold in total
From its launch until March 2022, 117.2 million PS4s were sold, an impressive figure that makes the console the fourth most sold of all time. Daniel Ahmad, principal analyst at Niko Partners, specifies that ahead of the Sony machine are the Game Boys/Game Boy Color (118.7 million copies sold), the Nintendo DS range (154 million copies sold) and the PS2 (155 million copies sold). But the PS4 is in danger of dropping to fifth place since the Nintendo Switch is at 111 million and begins its second life cycle.
The PS4 represents a huge leap forward for Sony after a disappointing PS3 for the first half of its life. The console continues the big exclusives of the previous model with acclaimed experiences like The Last of Us or God of War. Enough to give good arguments to the players. Without forgetting that even if the franchises are multiplatform, the PS4 represents the platform par excellence for FIFA and Call of Duty.

If the PS5 gets praise and tears up, difficult for Sony to reach PS4 records at present. The worldwide shortage of semiconductors is slowing down its production. Sony has already sold 21.7 million copies since its launch.
