Magic: The Gathering 30th Anniversary Edition There is a new product created by Wizards of the Coast to celebrate the original launch of the card game in 1993. Each box will contain only four packs of 15 cards. Each card will have a unique card, and none of them will be tournament legal.
This commemorative, collectible product, as the wizards call it, will cost $999.
The sale will begin online November 28, with deliveries to consumers in North America expected before the end of the year. According to a post on the official Magic The website, Set, aims to represent the game’s entire 30-year history by re-releasing some of its older cards into a highly collectible format. Wizards is hoping to apply the same rush of opening a pack of cards from an alpha or beta set. This includes the ability to find multiple cards from the Power Nine – including a remake of the iconic Black Lotus.
Where necessary, cards will feature “touch-up” art, and some cards will be swapped out.
“We wanted to be nostalgic,” Wizards said on their blog, “but not everything lived up to our modern standards.” For example, the Crusade – which was removed from Magic The Archives – along with several other cards in 2020 – will be absent from this set. From Below Contract, Darkpact, Demonic Attorney, Earthbind, and Weakness are also all excluded.
Here are the official details of what you can expect inside the box:
each performance of 30th Anniversary Edition Re-imagined in a modern context would consist of a four pack of pure nostalgia. Each pack contains 15 cards, 13 cards in the Modern frame – 1 Rare, 3 Unusual, 7 Common, and 2 Basic Lands – as well as a Basic Land in the Retro frame, an additional Retro Frame card, and a token.
Friendly local game stores will also be able to get in on the action. All Wizards Play Network stores will receive a copy Magic: The Gathering 30th Anniversary Edition For demonstration purposes, while the premium WPN store will receive three.
