The text—Fake/States Night—was originally placed on Narita’s homepage as an April Fools’ joke, presented as a prelude and introduction to the role-playing game. The second volume of TYPE-MOON Ace re-released it as a stand-alone novel form in January 2009 under the title Fate/Strange Fake.
Kadokawa began publishing it in January 2015 through his Dengeki Bunko imprint, which included illustrations by Shizuki Mori (Fate/Grand Order: Zetai Mazu Sensen Babylonia). The seventh volume went on sale on March 10.
Type-Moon began releasing a manga adaptation by Narita and Mori digitally under the imprint of Type-Moon Books as a light novel in the same month, with Kadokawa publishing the print version. The fifth volume was also sent on 10 March.
A-1 Pictures produced a promotional video to commemorate the release of the sixth light novel volume on New Year’s Eve in 2019.
essence
The fate/weird mockumentary centers around an incomplete copy of a Grail War based on the Third Holy Grail War in Fuyuki. After the conclusion of the Third Grail War, a US-based organization with the Magi, separate from the London-based Mage Association, used data from Fuyuki’s Grail War to plan their own ritual. Seventy years later, he used the town of Snowfield as holy ground for his own Grail War. Rohangal and his disciple, Faldius, are sent by the Mage Association to investigate the city and the state of war. Faldius, a spy of an American organization, has snatched Rohngal upon his arrival, despite being a puppet. He announces that his Holy Grail War is in development and is real, causing an uproar at the clock tower, and that he wants to “advertise” the project to the Association.
