Kanejo’s official website, Okarisimasu (Rent-a-Girlfriend) Television Anime, announced the third anime season on Saturday, revealing an announcement promo. Original creator Reiji Miyajima posted an illustration celebrating the announcement.
The televised anime produced by TMS Entertainment premiered in two 12-episode anime seasons in Summer 2020 and Summer 2022. Crunchyroll simulcast the anime with subtitles as it aired in Japan.
The anime series adapted Miyajima’s romantic comedy manga, also known by its acronym Kanokari, has been serialized in Weekly Shnen magazine since July 2017. Kodansha published the 28th volume on 16 September.
Kodansha USA licensed the manga in English in July 2019. The 14th segment went on sale on 16 August.
Abandoned by his girlfriend, an emotionally shattered college student Kazuya Kinoshita attempts to appease the void in his heart through a girlfriend rental from a mobile app. At first, Chizuru Mizuhara seems to be the perfect girl with everything he could possibly ask for: great looks and a cute, caring personality.
Seeing mixed opinions on her profile after their first date, and still suffering from her previous relationship, Kazuya believes that Chizuru is just playing with men’s hearts and leaves her a negative rating. Enraged at his client’s disrespect towards him, Chizuru reveals his true nature: playful and temperamental, the exact opposite of Kazuya’s first impression. At that very moment, Kazuya learns of his grandmother’s downfall and is forced to bring Chizuru with him to the hospital.
Although it doesn’t turn out to be anything serious, her grandmother is happy that Kazuya has finally found a serious girlfriend, who has always been her wish. Unable to tell her the truth, Kazuya and Chizuru are forced into a fake relationship – acting as if they are really lovers. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
