Without any argument, The Last of Us is one of the best gaming experiences out there. Exciting gameplay and an unprecedented story of two strangers finding peace in each other while trying to tackle a harsh world. The game originally came out on PlayStation 3 and pushed older hardware to its limits.
About a year after its PS3 launch, the game was completely remixed for Sony’s then-next-gen hardware, the PlayStation 4, with some quality-of-life adjustments and fine-tuning to the game’s visuals and performance on the new console. was added for. The remastered version felt right at home on PS4 with stellar graphics and a smooth 60fps mode, which greatly benefited game enjoyment.
Nearly nine years after the game’s original launch on PS3, Naughty Dog has announced a full-blown remake of The Last of Us for PlayStation 5, which will later make its way to PC as well.
However, given the pricing model, which charges players a full $70 for a remake of this old title, players are a bit skeptical about whether to pick up the game for the PS5.
Is The Last Of Us Part 1 Remake Worth Taking At Full Price?
The Last of Us Part 1 Remake looks amazing without a doubt. Developer Naughty Dog has certainly put a lot of effort into recreating assets and textures and redefining the original game’s visuals. However, the original game was already well ahead of its time with regards to visual fidelity, facial animations, and environmental complexity.
The remastered version of the game is still one of the best looking games out there even on the PS5, which runs using the console’s backwards compatibility feature. So it’s strange that Sony and Naughty Dog decided to remake The Last of Us instead of the many other titles at Sony, and that even Naughty Dog’s back catalog could have benefited more from the remake.
Naughty Dog wanted to bring the original game closer to The Last of Us Part 2’s visuals and art style. The remake looks similar, if not even better, than the sequel in all the gameplay trailers PlayStation has released for the game.
The remake will also feature gameplay enhancements over the sequel, such as the ability to go prone and an improved stealth gameplay system with improved enemy AI.
Aside from the visual upgrades, gameplay refinements, and the usual PS5 enhancements that players have come to expect from every other PlayStation title, the game isn’t offering much in terms of new content that, for the $70 price tag, isn’t worth it. Especially for players who have already experienced the game with the remastered version.
However, in the same vein, the remake offers the perfect opportunity for new players who haven’t yet experienced the phenomenal story of the original game to finally experience one of the best video games ever made. .
What does The Last of Us Part 1 Remake offer?
The Last of Us Part 1 Remake will feature the full main storyline of the original game, remade in the completely new and improved Naughty Dog’s proprietary engine that powered the sequel.
In addition, players will also get Left Behind Story DLC, a prequel chapter that explores Ellie’s past and the event that changed her life.
Along with several graphical and gameplay enhancements, the remake will also feature a wider range of accessibility options, similar to The Last of Us Part 2, with over 60 accessibility settings, with expanded options focused on fine-motor and hearing. As well as new features that greatly benefit players with low vision or blindness.
The Accessibility feature is a major improvement over the original game as it allows more players who could not experience the original game’s exquisitely crafted story and gameplay due to some physical limitations to enjoy it.

Overall, The Last of Us Part 1 Remake is a worthy investment only if players haven’t played the original game and want to experience the beautifully crafted story and characters of the original game. Furthermore, the remake doesn’t offer much for the asking price of $70 for players who have already played through the story, either on the original PS3 release or the remastered version.
