I can’t stop playing Fall Guys, and that’s partly because I (arguably) know what’s wrong with gaming today. Back when the Fall Guys dropped two years ago and became an overnight hit because of their insane running, I couldn’t get enough. But I eventually got carried away.
However, in a moment of boredom that was delayed (and delayed again) by waiting for an early plane, I realized I should give the Fall guys a second chance. And, again, wouldn’t you know it, I’m sitting here a week later talking about how addictive this game is.
Fall Guys, for the uninitiated, is an online competitive platformer where you and 59 other contestants try to avoid an obstacle course. Sometimes it’s a race, sometimes it’s a puzzle you have to survive. But no matter what you play, you’ll be competing in a neon-soaked environment where your fellow Fall Guys are stubborn little creatures with (not unlike Minions) tiny eyes.
Fall Friends, available on Switch (opens in new tab), Xbox (opens in new tab), PS4/PS5 (opens in new tab) and PC Free- via Epic Games Store (opens in new tab) Two-play went away in June. But I was playing long before then.
I bet you must be wondering what really brought me back? Well, dear reader, I’m not into makeup, but this is a story that begins with cosmetics.
Fall Guys got a character skin that makes me smile
One morning last week, I was sitting at LaGuardia Airport in New York knowing that my flight was getting delayed. And in that moment I remembered a story I had seen online. Austin Creed, who goes by Xavier Woods/King Woods when he is in the ring on WWE Friday Night SmackDown, was joining Fall Guys as a cosmetic skin, available to purchase as downloadable content. was. Yes, that’s what I meant when I said I was wrong in gaming. It’s fun and cool, on a game I already know, to be impressed with a character skin? I feel shy.
Since he won the last King of the Ring tournament, Woods’ skin will also have its own crown—the artifact you’ll be racing to try and conquer in the Fall Guys. (Following WWE wrestlers Asuka and Undertaker are also available for purchase.) So, I booted up my Nintendo Switch, dropped the cash to play the Fall Guys as King Woods — and Asuka too, but I’d better luck as Woods. Got it), took my Switch Pro Controller out of my bag and got down to business.

And this is when LaGuardia’s Wi-Fi impressed me greatly. Not only was I able to easily download the latest game updates over free airport Wi-Fi, but I was actually able to play on the server using the same wireless connection. I didn’t expect any of this to work, from downloading updates to playing the actual game.
Once I found a corner of the airport where I could calmly play Fall Guys – my version of Fall Guys running left and right with young children and confused adults near the gate I was almost waiting for Tha – I fell down and almost lost track of time. I played over two dozen Fall Guys games at that gate. At one point, I realized that I was actually too busy with my mission to win a game of Fall Guys, so I had to set an alarm to remind me when I needed to leave for my gate.
And when that alarm sounded, I had not won a single round. But I was still having fun.
Fall Guys Have An Addiction I’m Trying To Manage
I’d play Fall Guys on an airplane if I could, but JetBlue failed to offer functional Wi-Fi in flight. The second I got to my Airbnb, though, I was so desperate to win a round that I thought all my thoughts about going out to get local grub (I was in Nashville and hungry for Prince’s Hot Chicken). I had to win, didn’t I? Especially in the comfort of an Airbnb, with more stable Wi-Fi.

And, yes, I did. Plus, I did it on Fall Mountain, which is one of the last levels I’ve always found the hardest to conquer. That level is a race where you have to reach the big floating crown at the end before anyone else, and then jump in time really well to catch the crown that’s going up and down.
I had no confidence in my Fall Guy abilities, and thought I’d have to play a few more rounds again, until I found Hex-a-Gon, a round where you run into hexagons that disappear. when someone steps on them. But I won Fall Mountain because there were other players in front of me running to the crown who failed to jump at the right time.
Outlook: Fall Guys Have Me Hooked – Again
And now that I’m back home, fall friends have wormed their way back into my waking hours, so you can just play around for a bit if you so choose. So, whether I’m tired of doomscrolling on Twitter (and, yes, I’m pretty tired of it), waiting to drop some more or just tired of my streaming options, I jump back into the Fall Guys again. I am
So, dear reader, if you’ve never tried Fall Guys, I hope I’ve given you a reason to check it out. And if you are already playing. Beware the player named ‘HenrytKsee’ wearing Xavier Woods skin. I’m more chaotic than good at this game, and I’m okay with that.
