Risk of Rain 2 Update 1.0 is now available on PC, bringing a new survivor, a new final stage, and more to the core game. However, apart from the materials, the new construction brought some issues to the overall performance. Are you facing crashes or bugs in Risk of Rain 2? We will try to help as much as possible.
Startup Crash 2 at risk of rain
If you find that your game crashes before booting, you can first check the drivers for your GPU. Update them if necessary and try again. If that doesn’t work, try running the game with administrator rights and whitelist it with your firewall or anti-virus just to be safe. One last thing you want to check is whether you have mods installed. If your game runs fine without mods, you should disable them one by one and identify which one is causing the problem. Remember to restart your PC for the best chances of running the game.
low fps / stutter
Players are complaining that even with high-end PCs, they find Risk of Rain 2 laggy at times. Once again, you’ll want to check and update your GPU drivers. Also, if you are using any graphics enhancement settings through your GPU provider application, try disabling them and check how the game plays. A safe thing to try is to play around with the graphics settings in the game and see what suits your hardware. If you find that the problem is not caused by hardware inconsistencies, be sure to disable V-Sync from your GPU control panel and try again.
Save files that are not synced/missing
If you’re missing your last saved file in Risk of Rain 2, the developers encourage you to verify game files through Steam’s settings. This process may take some time but your saved files are most likely to be recovered this way.
stuck on start screen
This issue is most likely caused by a conflict with your current version of VC++. What you need to do is uninstall and reinstall the 2015 version that the game uses and try again. You can find it here and you can download it. When the download is down just hit run and let the installation finish before trying to play the game again. If this doesn’t work, make sure your CPU and RAM are not limited via Task Manager. Close any unnecessary browser windows or programs and re-run the game.
No continue button (developer fix)
This is a fix provided by Risk Rain 2 developers on the “read me first” thread on Steam Discussion. The problem may also show a message saying “EARLY_ACCESS_DISCLAIMER”. To deal with this, the devs have provided a step by step guide to rewrite your corrupted data with new one. Here is the process:
- Make sure Risk of Rain 2 is turned off.
- Restart Steam.
- Next, locate the folder in which your user profile is saved. This is usually in “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\(ACCOUNT NUMBER)\632360\remote\UserProfiles”.
- There should be an xml file with a bunch of random characters, ie “2919dc8a-fd4c-4c3c-bd7d-8aeeac67b831.xml”
- Open the .xml file in Notepad. Go to copy pastebin’s contents to .xml file, replacing all existing content. Press Save.
- Reopen the game in Steam.
If you’re experiencing more problems with Risk of Rain 2, such as random crashes and error messages, you can connect to the game’s Discord server and speak directly to the support team.
