In a slightly more chilled out approach to a publisher showcase, we have a six-hour-long stream looking at the biggest games coming to Xbox over the next year.
The following (copied verbatium from Microsoft) is what we can expect, along with new gameplay and developer interviews as part of a showcase of select titles:
- Microsoft Flight Simulator (Asobo Studio / Xbox Game Studio Publishing)
- Gunfire Reborn (Duoi Games / 505 Games)
- Sea of Thieves (Rare Games / Xbox Game Studios)
- PK Lies (NeoWiz)
- High on Life (Squanch Games)

- Minecraft Legends (Mojang Studios, Blackbird Interactive / Xbox Game Studios)
- Planet of Lana (Wishly / Thunderful)
- Age of Empires IV (Relic Entertainment, Edge of the World / Xbox Game Studios)
There may be some additional surprises beyond that, of course – though it’s best to get over the expectations. We’ll be tuning in for some more Flight Simulator news alike.

Returning for another year, this is an indie-focused showcase from Gamescom created in collaboration with IGN.
Whether it will trade the sprawling Kolenmese convention hall in Cologne for Venice Beach in Los Angeles again remains to be seen – but we expect more than 40 games and “exclusive trailers, gameplay and a unique arrangement.”
Here’s last year’s show for a taste of what to expect:
What about other publishers’ plans for Gamescom 2022?
Running for the fifth year (yes, we’re counting) there is no dedicated showcase from PlayStation, a publisher that was once a big proponent of Gamescom in previous console generations.
Nintendo, which began to do more with Gamescom pre-pandemic, is also absent. It streams of its own around this time of year anyway — and with a recent direct dedicated to Splatoon 3, don’t expect anything further.
Activision and Take-Two are also not participating, but Ubisoft, Banda Namco and Embraer will have show floor presences.
To risk what seems like a broken record, don’t expect much from any of Gamescom’s publishers this year — but hopefully we’ll get one or two interesting revelations.
