this afternoon, IGN put on its now-annual Summer Games presentation, which included an abundance of game trailers covering all genres and tastes. Fellow associate editor Wesley LeBlanc and I watched the show together and picked a few titles that we look forward to seeing more of in the future. Now, this list won’t include the big hitters from shows like Gungrave Gore, DNF Duel, The Walking Dead, or the latest Aliens: Fireteam Elite expansion, but is instead highlighting some games you might not already know. Check out these great looking indie titles coming to a gaming machine near you:
last worker
The Last Worker got a new trailer during IGN’s expo stream today, showcasing more of the game’s exciting voice cast. Speaking of that voice cast, today’s trailer showed off some great talent: Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies), Zelda Williams (Robin Williams’ daughter!), Tommy Earl Jenkins (Die-Hardman in Death Stranding), Claire-Hope Ashitey (Master of None), Lafur Darri Lafsson, and David Hewlett. What to expect, developer Ophi described the game like this in today’s trailer description:
“Protagonist Kurt needs a certain kind of break, but it doesn’t seem like it in this trailer for The Last Worker. This narrative adventure explores how humans in a shipping warehouse in an end-stage capitalist environment. is replaced by robots.
The Last Worker hits PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch and PC (as well as unspecified VR platforms) sometime this year.
Peach Roots
Roots of Pacha was announced last year, but today’s trailer gives us another look at the beautiful Stardew Valley-like farming game. It also includes the game’s very catchy music. And to coincide with that, we took a look at the musical rhythm minigame in Roots of Pacha. Soda Den’s latest has a Steam demo you can play right now, and if you use the code “Smiley,” you’ll get a special cat hat for use in it.
Roots of Pacha is described in the IGN trailer released today:
“Pacha’s Roots helps you grow crops, harvest crops, befriend animals, and grow your village in either single-player or cooperative mode. This trailer for Roots of Pacha gameplay shows off some of the new elements that you can experience while playing. ,
ship of Fools
A new trailer for Ship of Fools was released today, revealing that the ship-faring roguelike from Fika Productions is coming to consoles. Plus, this colorful and chaotic game will feature both online and couch co-op. The new trailer takes another look at the frantic gameplay as well as its many in-game shops to visit and the map we’ll be using to navigate these dangerous waters. Ship of Fools hits PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch and PC sometime this year.
under the oresa
From the mind of Broken Spear Inc. comes Beneath Oresa, a new deckbuilding roguelike that sets players on an adventure in the tunnels beneath the city of Oresa. Each character you bring into the tunnels has different benefits that you can use to try to escape from the underground and dangerous underground. The new trailer shown off today’s IGN showcase revealed a new boss, a beefy, massive monster with a makeshift spear, and darkly charging at the player character. Under the oresa looks beautiful and intriguing. If you’re interested in checking it out ahead of its vague 2022 release date, there’s a demo on Steam to check out right now.
Sacrifice
This JRPG from the developers of Pixelated Milk is not only fun to watch, but it looks like it could be a great throwback to classic role-playing adventures. Pseudo-mimicking the HD-2D style used by Square Enix in recent years, Sacrifice has that great new-school retro look we love to see. It marries both elements of real-time with traditional turn-based actions for what we hope is exciting and strategic gameplay. Currently, there is no set release date for Sacrifice but it is expected to land on PC this year.
