Thanks to integration resulting from Microsoft and Discord’s latest deal, Discord voice chat has made its way to Xbox consoles.
“You will be able to chat with anyone on Discord via voice channel or group call directly from your console. Making it easier to connect with friends on mobile, Xbox and PC,” said Eric Voris, Principal Program Manager, via a blog post. “When you are playing on your console, you will be able to see who is calling and speaking. You’ll also be able to adjust the sound and switch between Discord Voice and Xbox Game Chat,” read the post on Xbox Wire. Before testing the integration, users must first connect their Xbox account to their Discord. To do so, users can find the option to add their accounts in Settings > Connections. The option remains the same across mobile, web browser and desktop platforms. Afterwards, users need to select the Xbox logo in the Connections menu and follow the prompts to successfully link their account.
Mobile users will first need to install the Xbox app, available for Android and iOS, then click the ‘Transfer Calls to Xbox’ option when connecting to the voice channel on Discord. Upon selecting the option, Discord will automatically start transferring the audio to your Xbox console, and you can start a voice chat on the same.
In the preview above, users can get a glimpse at the slick Discord voice call interface on the Xbox console. However, to access Discord voice chat on Xbox consoles, users who have previously connected their XBOX account to Discord will need to unlink and re-link their account. Users can transfer ongoing calls across voice channels to servers, group DMs and Direct Messages on their Xbox console with a single click.
