With the launch of Season of Plunder in Destiny 2, comes the expected collection of new weapons to earn. Some players will notice that there is a new quest available in Relic on Mars that rewards two weapon patterns. One in particular is a very powerful linear fusion rifle called the Taipan 4FR that can roll with some of the best perk combinations in the game right now. Here’s how to earn and build your own Taipan Rifle.
How to get the Taipan 4FR Weapon Pattern
There are two ways to get the Taipan 4FR Weapon Pattern right now. The first is through earning two random drops from the World Loot Pool, in which Deepsight Resonance can be extracted from the weapon. To complete the Resonance objective simply equip the weapon and earn kills and complete activities such as Strike, Gambit, Crucible, or other matchmade activities.

The second way is to complete the quest from Relics on Mars, on the director through the world of the Throne of Savathun, which is called “Foundry Resonance”. First you’ll be given a weapon to complete and craft a Deepsight Resonance while performing Vanguard Playlist activities. You will then need to repeat this step with the Taipan 4FR provided to you, matching the Dares of Eternity or Wellspring Run and meeting its deepsight resonance. After going through it, you’ll have to get another DeepSight extraction from the second Taipan given to you, but you can do any activity you want to end it. After completing this step, return to the relic and shape the weapon pattern you earned from the two taipans you used.

In the third column when sizing the weapon, the best advantage will be to choose between Field Prep, Clown Cartridge or Triple Tap. Field prep is the most versatile in this situation, with the ability to provide high handling and reload speeds when bending, so it’s useful in any situation. Clown cartridges have a slight random advantage in that there is only a chance to overload the magazine with one or two extra rounds, but the ability to hold a larger magazine on demand is still a strong option. Triple Tap performs at its best when there is a long lasting target or multiple targets in range for maximum profit. Any of these three perks is a prime option, but be sure to re-shape your weapon to the enhanced versions of these perks if your weapon level is high enough.
There are really only two major choices for the fourth column: Frenzy and Firing Line. Firing Line is best for raids where you’re dealing focused damage when grouped, such as Oryx’s Encounter in King’s Fall or Sacred Minds in Garden of Salvation. In most other situations where you find yourself isolated from the group, the second best option would be Mania because it gives a damage bonus after being in active combat against an opponent for a certain period of time. Focused Fury is a distant third choice, but fully utilizing the perk takes time and a bit of skill and doesn’t provide as big a damage bonus as Frenzy or Firing Line do.

For PvP, if you choose to pack a Linear Fusion Rifle, there are really only two main advantages to focusing, which are the Clown Cartridge in the third column and the Snapshot Sight in the fourth column. These features are ideally suited for quick ADS and a stacked magazine to have at all times when lifting heavy ammo.
Additionally, you can swap out the clown cartridge for field prep for maximum handling and reload speed, but it takes a good amount of skill to crouch effectively in the heat of a PvP match unless you’re an opponent. But don’t get the drop or aren’t sniping incredibly far.
