Today Cygames announced via press release that it has acquired the old and beloved Metal Max IP.
The company will acquire IP from Kadokawa and Kadokawa Games, which it has owned for the past few years.
Although firm plans for the series have yet to be fully finalized, Cygames has promised to do everything possible to forge a new future for the Metal Max franchise and has announced that it will launch a new release for the console. The game will work.
Series producer Hiroshi Miyaoka will also move to Cygames and work on resuming the series as its director. While it will take some time, he wants the rebirth of the franchise to be something that will shake the hearts of RPG fans all over the world.
Cygames creator Kenichiro Takaki (whom you may know as the creator of the Senran Kagura franchise) also commented, mentioning that he loved Metal Max when he was a student.
He’s honored to be able to work on the franchise, and the company is about to embark on a project to turn Metal Max into the best console game ever, so he encourages fans to stay tuned.
If you are unfamiliar with Cygames, it is a popular game developer headquartered in Shibuya, Tokyo. It is best known for the Granblue Fantasy franchise (within which it is working on the Granblue Fantasy relink and recently released Granblue Fantasyverse) and a few more. Another highly anticipated (and rather mysterious) game in the works is Project Awakening, alongside Project GAMM by Takaki-san himself.
The Metal Max franchise celebrated its 30th anniversary last year. Kadokawa Games picked it up after being dormant for a while when it released Metal Max Zeno in 2018. The game then remade it into Metal Max Zeno Reborn, which launched in Japan in 2020 and in the West for PS4, Switch last month. and PC.
A sequel called Metal Max Wild West was in the works for quite some time, but it has recently been canceled following the birth of Kadokawa Games and Dragami Games.
