38 Chips, 3 World Championships, Goat, Crimsix are retired.
The undisputed goat of competitive Call of Duty has announced its retirement in the 2023 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II season. Ian “Crimsix” Porter has been a staple of the Call of Duty scene, starting his career 16 years ago at age 13, and finally hanging up his controller today at 29.
Crimsics’ career
Crimsix began its Call of Duty competitive career in 2008, and has remained one of the best in the game ever since. With 38 major tournament wins in his career, Crimix is the most winning player in Call of Duty and console esports, with over $1.4 million in prize money to his name.
The 2014, 2017 and 2020 World Championship victories also see him equal the highest number of world championships at 3, indicating that he was indeed one of the best. In an announcement video, the Krimsix explains his reasons for retirement and his plans for the future.
In an emotional video, Crimsix said:
“Time always wins. Right now, guys, I’m 29, the competition is like all 18 to 22, and it’s honestly a huge generational gap. It’s something I found myself struggling to deal with.” Found. All my friends from space don’t play anymore. There’s a reason for that. It’s been my struggle over the past 5 years. Even just simple things to communicate. Ultimately that’s my downfall “
“I’m scared… I’m scared. Shameless people. It’s been 16 years. It’s the only thing I’ve really known,” Crimsix said in her retirement video. I have supported… Thank you.”
For now, Crimsix will go to the content. He says he will compete in Warzone 2 tournaments, creating content around his passions, including sim racing, track day and shooting. While it’s a sad day for competitive Call of Duty fans, it’s good to know that Crimmix will continue to create content and give us its personality for years to come.
