We take a look at some of the strongest carries in Dota 2’s patch 7.31d.
The PGL Arlington Major 2022 is slowly coming to an end, which allowed us to see many of the heroes in action. Some teams tried to be more innovative and surprise their enemies, while others used classic meta heroes.
7.31d has been a very interesting patch because it allows some teams to be more innovative. We have a chance to see a lot of exciting heroes in the carry role, but this is not the case with the mids. Puck, Zeus, KOTL and Ta usually dominate this role, but we’ve already talked about these heroes, so we won’t go into further detail.
Instead, this article will try to provide you with more information about some of the strongest carries. Since everyone has a different “strongest” hero, for the purpose of this article, we’ll use the Arlington Major win rate, as well as the dotbuff.
Chariot
There are heroes who fall into the “meta carry” category because they are only popular in certain patches. However, Juggernaut is not one of them as it is a hero who is usually a good pick no matter what. Sure, there are metas like this where he’s more popular, but he’s always been an option for some people.
If we take a look at the PGL Arlington Major, we can see that the hero has a win rate of over 50%. This probably shouldn’t come as a surprise to some of you as teams like PSG.LGD use him all the time. As you know, the Chinese powerhouse has won pretty much all the matches.
Like most of Dota 2, Juggernaut can use a wide variety of items. However, the hero usually has two popular item builds, one of which includes Battlefury. The current patch allows teams to go for it, but some of them prefer to focus on Attack Speed One with things like SNY or Manta Style.
Apart from the PGL Arlington Major, Juggernaut is an excellent choice for pub games. If we take a look at DotaBuff, we can see that the hero has a win rate of over 55%, which is extremely impressive.
the dark shadow
The second name on this list belongs to a hero who isn’t as popular among pro players, at least not yet. At the time of writing this article, Spector has only appeared in five matches, but the protagonist has a 100% win rate. What’s even more impressive, according to Dotbuff, is that Spector is the second most successful hero in the pub.
Like Juggernaut, this late-game monster has been popular for being a situational pick for many years. If you remember the days of Zeus and Spector Meta, you might think that the present is the same. However, these two heroes are not as trendy as before as most teams and players prefer to rely on other options.
One of the main differences between Specter then and now is one of the protagonist’s items. People used to rush the radiation and get the diffuse blade ASAP, whereas now, things are different. Even though some players continue to use these items, others focus on meta builds and manta moves to aghus. This allows them to participate in more teamfights.
We don’t know if Valve will release a new patch before TI 11, which starts about two months from now. If the company decides to keep the current one, we expect the Specter to become more popular because the hero has an impressive win rate.
chaos Knight
One of the top tier carries from the last patch to dominate pub and pro games. Although most players expected this hero to receive a lot of nerfs, CK is still one of the top picks for all types of teams. For example, OG uses him regularly as Yuragi has proven himself as one of CK’s best players.
The reason this hero is so strong is that he doesn’t need a lot of items to deal damage. Even though he’s not the fastest farming carry, CK’s damage output and the fact that he’s an STR carry helps him a lot. All the hero needs is a good start, and he can get his armlet and/or HOT in no time. Once that happens, it becomes almost impossible to kill him.
Interestingly, CK has a much higher win rate in Major than in Pub. Unless Valve shuts him down, he will certainly be one of the primary weapons for many teams at TI 11.
bristleback
This is probably the most exciting name on the list, at least for those who haven’t noticed the past few events. The Bristleback has been a situational pick for some teams over the years, but he became very popular after the Riyadh Masters 2022.
Similar to CK, Bibi is a STR hero not known for his fast-farming abilities. Still, he farms faster than most other STR carries, which is one reason some teams use him so often.
The main strength of the Bristleback is the fact that the hero is very hard to kill. Once the Legion Commander is out of the game, killing Bibi becomes a challenge as she is exceptionally tanky. In fact, it allows her to “harass” her opponents, similar to Medusa.
BB had a chance to shine in about 20 matches and had a win rate of around 62% in the Majors.
Lone Druid
The last spot on the list will surprise some of you as LD is a very resilient hero and can act in all three lead roles. However, players like MATUMBAMAN usually go in the safe lane, which is why we consider LD to be a carry.
Unlike every other option, Lone Druid is a very specific hero that only a few players know how to use. That’s why we don’t often see him in action, especially in pro games. The only exception was when he was a mid-laner a few years back.
Interestingly, LD has a win rate of around 52% in PUBG, which means there are tons of spammers who know how to destroy their opponents. Although there are different item builds, the most successful include a Radiance for Bear as it allows it to do a lot of damage.
