Fortnite has a variety of cosmetics that have become available through the Battle Pass, Item Shop, and limited-time gifts. The game’s back bling items can also be found among these, but some are more valuable than others. For example, there are some Back Blings that haven’t appeared in the Item Shop for years, while others are still exclusive to the old Battle Pass. Here are the rarest back blings currently in Fortnite, listed alphabetically.
What are Rare Back Blings in Fortnite?
backup plan

If you played Battle Royale in early 2018, you may have seen many players shaking up the backup plan. It attracted thousands of people and the item is one of the first Legendary Back Blings ever to be offered. On top of that, it also came free within a Twitch Prime giveaway. However, since this offer was for a limited time, the price of Back Bling has skyrocketed since then.
black shield

There aren’t many battle passes where back bling is given near the very end. The same happened with the first Battle Pass of the game, as Black Shield Back Bling could be unlocked at Tier 70 in Chapter 1 Season 2. Many would even argue that this has been the best back bling ever to come from a pass. For some reason, the shield is of mythical-rarity and in the center is a fire-breathing black dragon.
holding on

As buckled as it looks, it surprisingly plays a big part in Fortnite’s history. Mango-rare was one of the first back blings not to be incorporated with cosmetic skin. Instead, it was obtainable through a bundle of its own, named the Buckled Bundle. The bag first debuted in August 2018 and has appeared in the store three times before disappearing in November 2018. If it ever comes back, players can grab Buckled for 800 V-Bucks.
galactic disk

Most of the Back Blings in the Item Shop require about $10 USD worth of V-Bucks, but Galactic Disc asked players to sacrifice more. In partnership with Samsung, Fortnite only offered back bling to people who bought Galaxy Note9 or Galaxy Tab S4 phones in 2019. Of course, that doesn’t mean forking over hundreds of dollars, ultimately making the galactic disk an incredibly rare cosmetic.
penguin/insignia

Penguins, along with the Insignia back bling, make the list by being the only area exclusive cosmetics to appear in a battle royale. Each was rewarded to those who played during Season 5 on WeGame, a platform that is only available in China. Although there are ways to access WeGame in other regions, players outside of China found that they were still unable to equip items. Considering Season 5 took place in 2018, it has become clear that Penguin and Insignia will not be available for sale to everyone.
response unit

The reaction unit may only be a rare-rare back bling, but it is highly unlikely to be available again. The item was included in the Fortnite collaboration with NVIDIA, as players must purchase one of the tech company’s graphic cards or computers in 2018 to earn Response Units. Of course, the deal was sweeter than just back bling. It also gave buyers reflex skin, 2,000 V-Bucks and an Nvidia-themed pivot glider. Unfortunately, the deal expired at the end of the year, so fans can only hope that it will return if another collaboration between the two is announced.
rusty bucket

Occasionally, developer Epic Games hands out free items whenever the game encounters technical issues and prevents players from logging in. This happened in April 2018 when most players could not enter a match until the end of base days. As a result, those who went to the item store the following week would get a free pick up Rust Bucket Cosmetics. Since then, back bling has been absent and likely will not return.
square shield

Similar to Black Shield, Square Shield was also obtainable through the Chapter 1 Season 2 Battle Pass. However, it is not that rare. Back Bling can be unlocked near Tier 1. Yes, that means the Square Shield was the first cosmetic that players could get from Fortnite’s integrated Battle Pass system. Better yet, the Square Shield Blue is tailor-made for square skin, an ensemble that bears the same exact blue and silver design.
telemetry

Another promotion-only back bling, Telemetry can be acquired in 2018 by acquiring the Nintendo Switch Double Helix Bundle. This includes the console, 1,000 V-Bucks and a cosmetic set that still hasn’t appeared in the item shop. Along with telemetry, this set had a double helix skin, rotor glider and pinpoint glider. Switch bundle no longer for sale with any major retailer, telemetry back bling is hard to get nowadays.
widow’s pack

Widow’s Pack Back Bling is sadly a part of the game’s biggest mystery. Shortly after debuting in early 2019, Back Bling and its dedicated Black Widow skin disappeared from the item shop, never to return. So far, no explanation has been given as to why this happened or whether Marvel Cosmetics will ever revisit the digital marketplace. The Widow pack featured a plain black bag with the Black Widow logo in the center as well as a pair of sticks.
